Outlander fans, we are back this Sunday with another all new episode, aptly titled “Surrender”. The word surrender tends to imply that we were faced with a conflict, that we couldn’t “beat” and were forced to give up fighting. In other cases, and especially with Jamie and Claire in this episode, it was lent an altogether different meaning. Now be warned, I do write this with the knowledge of having read Voyager, so if you aren’t a book reader, beware of spoilers.
Two words exited my mouth when I finished watching the Outlander premiere, ‘The Battle Joined’: Good Lord. To be fair, it’s a phrase I often use when I witness something that doesn’t seem to have words that match an experience. Frankly, Outlander’s season 3 premiere was less an hour or so of television, and more an experience through Jamie and Claire’s eyes.
We did it, Outlander fans! This Droughtlander has been long and painful, but we braved through it and season 3 is finally upon us. Tonight, we will finally get to see what happened to Jamie and Claire after she went through the stones, back to her own time, and how they have fared for those long and lonely twenty years without each other.
Droughtlander is almost over, folks, and what a wait it has been! Before the new season gifts us with new scenes of all our favorites — and new favorites to come, I’m sure — I’d like to list what I’m most looking forward to when Outlander graces our screens.
Entertainment Tonight has sent out some titillating scoops for Outlander‘s upcoming 3rd season, including this lovely interview with Leanne Aguilera and Outlander‘s Co-Executive Producer Matthew Roberts.
Diving straight into the romance, Mr. Roberts teases that Jamie and Claire’s journey in season three will ask the question, “is love really worth fighting for?”
I am going to take a vote and go with a resounding YES!
Jumping between the two time periods during the 20 year separation will see Jamie and Claire continuing on; but as Roberts says, they aren’t “whole people without each other.”
Packing in all of Voyager won’t be possible, but sticking to the story is essential for these writers. I’m truly relieved to see how much careful thought they’ve put into adapting the story to the screen for Outlander season 3, as well as every season we have seen so far.
As long as the wait has been, the one thing Roberts stands by is that fans “will be rewarded for your patience.”
I don’t know about you, Outlander fans, but I’m taking Matthew Roberts at his word. And I can’t wait for Outlander‘s third (and likely epic) season to get here!
Outlander returns with its third season Sunday, September 10 on Starz.
