Summer TV Roundtable: Hiatus? What Hiatus?

Kids these days don’t know how good they have it: Rather than spending all summer watching reruns and wishing for new content, they now get to leap from one series’ hiatus to another’s premiere. With so many ways to watch television, there’s never such thing as downtime; and while it sometimes gets overwhelming, it’s much more preferable than the old way of doing things. So, with most of our favorite “regular season” shows either on hiatus or soon to be there, if you’re actually wondering what to watch next, check out our humble suggestions.

Once Upon a Time: Series Finale Roundtable

Once Upon a Time,
There was an enchanted forest filled with all the classic characters we know.
OR think we know.

Our World…

Timeless Roundtable: Season 2 In Review

Timeless is the kind of underrated show that everyone deserves to hear about. It is well produced,  well written, and has such a stellar cast that we seriously don’t understand why the series isn’t more popular. Timeless is critically acclaimed and boasts a hardcore fanbase, but it’s still fighting for a renewal — for reasons that completely baffle us.

Timeless season 2 delivered an even better story than the series’ first year, teaching viewers history lessons and making us fall in love with its amazingly complex characters all over again. We root for them, we cry with them, we hurt with them, and we most definitely want to keep them around for many seasons to come. The season 2 finale hit us all in the gut with a one-two sucker punch that left us breathless and grieving the death of a beloved character, only to turn around and make our heads spin with the mother of all plot twists.

So, we’re hopeful for a season 3, more history lessons, more Lyatt and most definitely more Rufus Carlin. Come on, NBC. We need to save Rufus!

Renewal Roundtable: Keep or Kill?

Every year, early May is a stressful time for TV fans. If your favorite show ended up on the bubble, this is the time when the anxiety sets in. You’re waiting on pins and needles to hear if your show has been renewed and will live on to see another season.

This year, there are a lot of series on the bubble. Some deserve to be there after a shitty season, but some of them still have us scratching our heads in confusion as to how they ended up there at all — yes, we’re talking about Timeless.

So, we gathered a few writers and TV fans to discuss which shows deserve to die a painful death and which ones absolutely need another season, lest we be the ones who might die of a broken heart.

Suits Roundtable: We Say Farewell

Meghan Markle and Patrick J. Adams are leaving Suits at the end of season 7. With just one last chance to visit their characters, Rachel Zane and Mike Ross, we decided to take some time to look back at their past contributions to the Pearson Hardman/Pearson Darby/Pearson Darby Specter/Pearson Specter/Pearson Specter Litt/Specter Litt universe and share our hopes for their futures. As will probably be obvious to any Suits viewer, these two talented actors and beloved characters will be sorely missed.

This Is Us Roundtable: Will Jack’s Death Live Up To The Hype?

Jack Pearson’s presence on This Is Us has been vital from the get-go. He’s easily the husband/father of the year and a legend of sorts. The Pearson kids have lived with his memory for more than half their lives; and his death was a turning point for them, which has shaped who they are today.

The moment everyone has been waiting for is just around the corner. After the Superbowl — fitting seeing as how big the game is for the Pearsons — an all-new episode of This Is Us will air. The episode — the one where we will finally find out if all the clues were literal or subterfuge. How did Jack die? The question will finally be answered.

Until then, let’s discuss what might happen.

2017 Year In Review: The Entertainment & Humanity That Saved Us

2017 has been what we here at Writes of the Roundtable would politely call a year of trash…but we’ve already covered that. Just to be on the “fair” side of things (and actually close out this hellfire with something positive), we present to you an actual roundtable about things we loved. You might even say these things saved us in 2017. God knows we needed something to.
